Zumeist werden moderne Fahrzeuge jedoch noch immer rein konventionell angetrieben, obwohl sie bereits voll elektrifiziert sind. Neben dem steigenden Kostendruck, technischen Hürden und einer unsicheren Marktsituation hat insbesondere die Infrastruktur und das jeweilige Nutzungsszenario Einfluss auf die zukünftige Entwicklung. Durch die notwendige Integration neuer Industrien, wie der Chemie- und Elektronikbranche sowie der Energiewirtschaft, werden sich die Wertschöpfungsstrukturen in der Automobilindustrie mit der Elektromobilität weiter verändern. Die Folge ist ein komplexes, interdependentes Wertschöpfungssystem mit neuen Wettbewerbsstrukturen und Geschäftsmodellen. Demnach werden auch an die Produktion von Elektrofahrzeugen neue Anforderungen gestellt. So sind Skalen- und Lerneffekte allein nicht mehr ausreichend um in Kleinserien und bei volatilen Stückzahlen wirtschaftlich produzieren zu können. Um auch in vorgelagerten Bereichen der Entwicklung Effizienzsteigerungen zu erzielen, sind die integrierte Produkt- und Prozessentwicklung sowie ein gutes Anlaufmanagement von entscheidender Bedeutung." ;
