    "description" : "Umfangreiche Buchbestände sind durch das Schadensphänomen „roter Zerfall“ bedroht. Diese Bücher pudern stark ab, die Lederfasern lösen sich aus ihrem Bestand, was zu einer erheblichen mechanischen Schwächung führt. Der Schadensfall betrifft zentriert die Bestände aus dem 19. Jahrhundert, wo vor allem Ledersorten minderer Qualität in großen Mengen auftreten. Die Kombination des minderwertigen Leders mit externen Ursachen verstärkt den Schadensabbau. Hervorzuheben sind dabei extrinsische Faktoren, die während der Industrialisierung aufgekommen sind, wie die Gasbeleuchtung und die damit verbundene längere Exposition gegenüber schädlichem Licht, und weitere ungünstige klimatische Bedingungen. Diese komplexe Problematik findet weite Verbreitung in Bibliotheksbeständen in Deutschland und europäischen Sammlungen. Während restauratorische Einzellösungen prinzipiell möglich sind, fehlt es an einer groß angelegten übergreifenden technischen Lösung. Diese Bestände können aufgrund ihrer stark eingeschränkten Verwendbarkeit und Handhabung weder massenentsäuert, katalogisiert noch digitalisiert werden und entziehen sich dadurch der wissenschaftlichen Bearbeitung. Die Entwicklung einer standardisierten Stabilisierungsmethode mit umweltfreundlichen Lösungsmitteln ist das Kernziel des Forschungsprojekts. Die Evaluierung von green solvents dient der Umweltentlastung und fördert in vor allem technikfernen Wissensgebieten wie den Kulturwissenschaften die Akzeptanz und Verwendung von umwelt- und ressourcenschonenden Verfahren. Neben der Evaluierung von green solvents steht auch die wissenschaftliche Kommunikation für den Einsatz von Alternativprodukten im Fokus.",
