The 2025 research examined the SIEC as a nationally backed, fully digital insurance marketplace designed to modernise underwriting, reinsurance placement, and regulatory transparency in China. The study highlighted its key innovations—including blockchain-enabled reinsurance contracts, automated clearing, electronic policy issuance, and API-based integration across market participants. SIEC’s growing international relevance was also analysed, particularly its cross-border reinsurance pilots and its alignment with China’s broader economic strategy. Compared with Lloyd’s of London, the research identified a clear contrast between a centralized, digital-first market architecture and Lloyd’s historically decentralized, globally licensed marketplace. The findings suggest that SIEC represents an emerging model for future insurance infrastructure and offers useful lessons for digitalisation and governance in international markets.
