Design and Realization of Three Different PV-Systems for Educational Purposes in Bolivia

This paper summarizes design process and realization of three different photovoltaic energy supply systems for two Bolivian professional schools in the area of Cochabamba: A 3-phase grid integrated system, a 1- phase island/grid-connected system and a solar-home system with adapted solar modules. The energy supply is part of an overall professional training concept under the leadership of Cristo Vive Bolivia and in cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Berlin. The systems enhance the independence from the national grid and lower the energy costs. Furthermore, the main goal is to implement a showpiece project for the region with an educational purpose. The one-phase PV-island system is incorporated into an agricultural school which has an adapted solar architecture, while the electric supply of the currently existing technical school is enforced by the three-phase grid integrated PV installation. The PV systems allow the shift from class-room education to project and problem based learning in the training program of young professionals in the field of renewable energy.
